New Michigan Zoning Enabling Act
The Michigan Zoning Enabling Act (Public Act 110 of 2006) repealed and replaced the Township Zoning Act (Public Act 184 of 1943) on July 1, 2006.
The new Michigan Zoning Enabling Act requires that all notices for a public hearing (i.e. variance applications, zoning amendments, and special land use applications) be published in the newspaper not less than 15 days before the meeting. As a result, the cutoff dates for all pertinent applications must be moved up. Applications and plans must be accurate and complete on this date. Applications or plans that are inaccurate or incomplete will be returned. It is highly recommended that a meeting be scheduled with the Director of Planning and Zoning (734-426-3767) well before the cutoff date to discuss the required materials and the application process. The new cutoff dates are as follows for the Zoning Board of Appeals.
